Khenpo Shia Rongbo: It is not impermanence that causes suffering, but the fear of impermanence!

In the face of a life full of suffering, it would be foolish for us to give up hope and hang our heads. Observing and thinking about suffering is meaningful because it is possible and hopeful for us to be free from it.
The Buddha preached the truth of suffering in order to make us aware of the painful nature of the existence of life in samsara. The more we understand suffering, the more we are motivated to practice the method of freedom from suffering. Pain and pleasure do not come out of nowhere, they both have their own causes and conditions.

The Buddha said that the root of all suffering is our long-standing and deep-seated misunderstanding of ourselves and the external world, our attachment to reality, and our failure to realize that everything depends on various internal and external conditions for birth and death.

Therefore, there is no inherentity, constancy, in Buddhist terms, selflessness and impermanence. Impermanence is not an invention of the Buddha, he simply points out an obvious fact that is often overlooked.

Time passes in an instant, winter goes to spring, flowers bloom, people have joys and sorrows, the moon is cloudy and sunny, everything is changing, this is impermanence.

Impermanence is a universal property of things, but people often do not pay attention to its existence until they are forced to suffer sudden changes, illnesses, and separations.

So people mistakenly think that it is impermanence that brings suffering, when in fact it is not impermanence that causes suffering, but the fear of impermanence.
