“twelve" is a magical number. in buddhism, the twelve stages represent the highest fruit position before the bodhisattva practices and becomes a buddha. medicine buddha has twelve great vows and twelve yaokha generals. there are twelve earthly branches in the ancient chinese calendar, twelve months a year, twelve hours a day, twelve meridians in the human body, twelve zodiac signs, etc.

《the lotus sutra says that when the buddha is born, attained enlightenment, spreads the dharma, and saves sentient beings, it is not only the benefit of sentient beings, but not only the sentient beings cherish it, but also all the buddhas cherish it. the tathagata of duobao became a buddha in nine kalpas and had been destroyed a long time ago. when the buddha was born and reincarnated as the dharma wheel, he would appear. after a long period of time, he saved the buddha of treasures, and was able to appear again in order to listen to the dharma. this represents the honor of buddhism.

produce the great bodhicitta

at the end of the lotus sutra, samantabhadra bodhisattva said that if future sentient beings can meet the dharma, they must have several major characteristics. the first is to plant the root of all virtues. "planting" is what we often call planting trees and planting trees. usually, we pay attention to buddha nature, cultivate resources, and dedicate to this fundamental knowledge with various blessings. we have made a lot of people who have accumulated a chance to achieve enlightenment.

the second is to obtain the protection of all buddhas, that is, to obtain the inheritance of buddhism, to obtain the protection of good teachers, and to enter the right concentration and then develop the heart to save sentient beings, to develop the great bodhicitta, and to meet these conditions before encountering buddhism.

it is rare to be in the world of the three jewels. the prerequisite for taking refuge in the three jewels is that the three jewels are still in the world. as long as the three jewels live in the world, the inheritance of buddhism can exist in the human world.

buddhism has been in the human world for more than three thousand years, and this itself is the most spectacular humanistic phenomenon of mankind. helping us grow from the civilization on earth to the advanced cosmic civilization, helping sentient beings improve themselves and get rid of suffering and gain happiness is the responsibility of buddhism on earth.

the mahayana eternal three jewels are a system in the universe. if you take refuge in the three jewels, you will enter this protection system. when we obtain the three refuges, it means that you have electricity in the system. our wires and lights will be turned on when they are connected to the power supply. taking refuge in the three jewels is equivalent to being in line with the three jewels, and then the quilt and merits of the three jewels will be presented to our lives.

from then on, we are no longer lonely, and we can even end the cycle of reincarnation and no longer wander. this is the greatest destination of life. therefore, buddhist beliefs have the ultimate nature, and there is another shore in buddhism. everything in the world has no other shore and does not have the ultimate nature. it is only in the process and has duality. many temples often write "the only method" on the door, "entering the only gate", and you will be the only gate after learning buddhism.

let the body serve the spirit

the body has birth, old age, sickness and death, but our spirit and the essence of life are neither born nor dead. that is why it experiences death, experiences the bardo, experiences hungry ghosts, and hell, it accepts judgment, is fed by its own karma and suffers, and the subject who experiences these will not die.

people who don’t understand live only for the body, but the existence of the body is temporary. just like investment, you do not accurately evaluate the project, and once you suppress everything, it will fail. after understanding this principle, let the body serve the spirit, so that we can produce spiritual power, and spiritual power will become the subject of our transcendence of life and death.

those who do not study buddhism are the spirit attached to the flesh, and everything serves the flesh, and the flesh serves the inner desires of greed, anger, and ignorance. desire is a black hole, without any bottom, so life forms a vicious cycle. the black hole of desire commands the body, believing that the body is the only me, and then this mistake will continue to continue, which is called the boundless sea of ​​suffering.

after learning buddhism, we straighten out the relationship between life and find who is the key, and who we should subordinate to. whether the spirit belongs to the body or the body belongs to the spirit, whether to live for life and death, or to live for eternity, is the question of the direction of life. when we find the right direction and then lock in the direction and work hard for it throughout our lives, the result is different.

studying buddhism gives us dignity in life. if we do not have the height of wisdom and exist simply for the sake of carnal desire, food, clothing, housing and transportation, then we will become materialized people and animal instincts, people who have faith will become rational people, and who have constraints, precepts, concentration and wisdom, then we will become practitioners.

a person with faith will inevitably use victory as the symbol of his life in this life. a person without faith will not be able to escape the suffering of reincarnation no matter how his blessings appear in his previous life or how hard he works the day after tomorrow. we do not need to experience this kind of suffering personally. the five thousand or eight thousand years of civilization of chinese culture and the accumulation of life wisdom of ancestors and sages has long been the best proof for us.
