十五世噶玛巴诞生于铁羊年（1871）年八月初十，是六个兄弟姊妹中最小的一位。噶玛巴诞生时，母亲的身体完全没有受到损害。当时天空出现彩虹，并下着花雨，有种种不可思议的吉祥美善征兆。

有意义的梦一代传一代，噶玛巴的外公钦列沃竹也做过一个和莲师有关的梦。钦列沃竹属于达给藏族，曾坐了九年的监牢。在那段时间，他梦见自己到了女儿洛嘎的牦牛毛帐棚。在一条支索和帐棚的交接处，他看到固定绳结的圆盘是“济”（藏文，zi）绑住的。“济”或称为天珠，是一种黑白相间的宝石。

像这样的梦会被认为有意义，因为它充满宗教象征，而且还有一位闻名、备受尊重的喇嘛出现，这样的梦是要和他人分享的。耶谢拉瑟告诉寺院的人说：“我做了一个不寻常的梦，请做大护法玛哈嘎拉的修法。”这是为了确保正面的结果。之后，寺院的一个人到耶谢拉瑟的家告诉他们这个梦。这梦和噶玛巴在一九八五年六月二十六日出生一事，完全吻合。

噶玛巴出生时，又有一只杜鹃出现了。它降落在帐棚顶端，唱了许久的歌。三天之后，和第十六世噶玛巴预言信中"白物神奇远传之音"那一句对应了，附近的人听到海螺的声音响了很久，之后还有钹和唢呐等各种高高低低的乐音。另一项吉祥征兆是太阳周围有彩虹环绕。那地区所有的人都听到、看到这些事件。
