One day, when the Buddha was passing by the market with his disciples, he saw an old man selling fish, and while he was fighting to sell fish, he lamented, "God! What the hell did I do wrong to let my son die so early? If he were still alive and could help me sell fish, how could I work so hard and hard! The Buddha looked at the old man compassionately, and then smiled lightly. In an instant, five colors of golden light appeared on the side of the Buddha's teeth, illuminating the old man and the entire market. After a while, a big pig covered in filth, dripping with feces and urine, swayed through the market, and everyone covered their noses and mouths at this time. When the Buddha saw this, he smiled with pity again.
Ananda saw the Buddha's behavior on the sidelines and felt that it was different from before, so he respectfully asked the Buddha for instructions: "Compassionate World-Honored One! Just now you saw the old man sighing and smiling with pity, and now you see the big pig swaying and smiling the same, is there any special reason for this? I ask the World-Honored One to be merciful and enlightened in order to answer the common doubts of the people. The Buddha then told the crowd that there were three reasons for laughing:
First, it is helpless to be stupid with this old man. Think of the fact that when he was fishing by the stream, countless lives were killed under his fishing nets, and these fish and shrimp were broken and separated. However, he never had the slightest compassion because of the suffering of fish and shrimp. Now his son has died due to misfortune, but he complains about the curse and laments that fate is unfair to him. Laugh because of such karma!
Second, in the past, the flying emperor, who was once unstoppable, able to call the wind and rain, came and went freely, and was full of ambition, but today he can only survive helplessly in the fishmonger's fight, and even take care of his own life. This celestial being in his previous life, because he specialized in cultivating utopian views, cultivated emptiness, but he clinged to this imaginary emptiness and could not return to his original heart. Although he has a long lifespan of 840 million eons, he cannot let his sins and karma disappear, and when his longevity is exhausted, his concentration will also disappear, and he will still suffer from the retribution of reincarnation!
Ananda was puzzled and asked, "Why can't a flying emperor as honorable as Shakti, who has cultivated so many merits, still not be exempt from karmic retribution?" The fish on the side opened their empty eyes at this time, as if they felt something. The Buddha replied, "Blessings and misfortunes are only temporary illusions and do not last long!" If you are complacent because of the wealth of this life, and do not know how to continue cultivating blessings and cultivating wisdom, but instead go against the grain and apply violence, and soon, the blessings will be exhausted, and you will bring countless disasters and retribution for yourself. This karma and karma follow you like a shadow, like a response, and there will be no difference between high and low! ”
The third reason is that I remember that in the past, when I was practicing the Bodhisattva Path, I was born as a disciple of the Three Jewels. Every six fasting days, I will go to the Buddhist temple to listen to the scriptures and listen to the Dharma, and never dare to slack off in the Tao. Because he believes in the Three Jewels, practices the Dharma on weekdays, does good deeds tirelessly, and adheres to the five precepts - not killing, not stealing, not committing adultery, not lying, and not drinking, he feels that he was born in the Buddha world, and he was ordained by the Buddha's teachings and practiced, and from then on he has been unremittingly devoted to the life of life, so his virtue and blessings have been increasing day by day, and he has achieved the supreme Buddha fruit and is respected by the world.
At that time, the neighbors next door never believed in the truth that evil is rewarded with evil and good is rewarded with good, so they did not learn and did evil everywhere. They also worship ghosts and gods, and cast charms to harm others. On weekdays, when I have free time, I eat, drink, prostitute, gamble, drink and have fun.
Since then, in the cycle of reincarnation, the place where I have been born has been a pure place, where I can listen to the Dharma and practice diligently, and attain Buddhahood. And this neighbor in the past, because of his nostalgia for women, excessive lewdness, and ignorance of filial piety to his parents, is still reincarnated in the Three Evil Realms in this life, and has not been able to leave, and has fallen into this filthy pig!
