question: the master once said that guanyin bodhisattva is regarded as the incarnation of amitabha buddha. i wonder if it is based on buddhist scriptures? master yin said that guanyin bodhisattva is the reincarnation of ancient buddha and the assistance of amitabha buddha. from the perspective of ordinary people, it is two, not one. i hope the master will explain the basic doctrines to us?

master honghai answered: this question was very well-asked. i did say that. this is convenient, but convenience is true, and we must also understand the truth. so the cause and condition of this dharma at that time was as follows: we said that amitabha buddha is the hiding body of the dharma realm, so how should he manifest it? it is reflected in the pure land dharma that is not just a method of rebirth and saving death. like the method of medicine buddha’s glazed world, it also has the effect of saving life. what should i use to help my life? it is realized by guanyin bodhisattva as the representative and incarnation of amitabha buddha in the saha world.

in terms of appearance, it seems that this is not mentioned directly in the classics. but from the fundamental point of view, it may be understood this way. because the fundamental temple of guanyin bodhisattva is in the pure land, he is the highest disciple of amitabha buddha. then when he came to the saha world to find a voice to save suffering, he could be said to be a representative and incarnation of amitabha buddha in the saha world.

for example, when the "amitabha buddha sutra" talks about the lower level of rebirth, it is said that those who are reborn commit evil karma, and at the end of their lives, a wise man teaches them to chant the buddha's name in combination, and eliminate serious sins by chanting the buddha's name. at this time, amitabha buddha will send the transformation of buddha, the transformation of guanyin, the transformation of great momentum, and the practice of the practitioners. in other words, the three western sages emerged into the saha world to attract sentient beings. the avalokitesvara bodhisattva here is the incarnation sent by amitabha buddha to the saha world.

the sutra also says that all buddhas and bodhisattvas are the bodies of the dharma realm and enter the minds of all sentient beings. if you can understand this method, you can understand that guanyin bodhisattva is completely the incarnation of amitabha buddha. amitabha buddha is the body of the dharma realm, and enters the minds of all sentient beings. not only guanyin bodhisattva is the incarnation of amitabha buddha, but when we recite and remember the buddha, we are also the incarnation of amitabha buddha. therefore, from the beginning to the end, there is also a teaching perspective, which can be used as a basis.

of course, from the perspective of abstract representation, what we mean is that we hope that everyone can have a comprehensive and profound understanding of the pure land dharma, and at all levels of saving life and death, they can develop perfect and unobstructed faith in the characteristics of saving sentient beings in this dharma.

if we look at the question from this fellow practitioner, i have made some contributions. however, when we preach the dharma, we might as well follow the dharma principles of the buddhist scriptures, and then learn from one example and apply it to others. we can not only express our nature in a reasonable and law-based way, but also do not violate the principle of expressing our nature in terms of the cause and effect. this purpose is to serve faith, aspiration and practice. that's all.
